Mountain with Tunnels

I was inspired to do this quick design, maybe a little two quick. I am remodeling my basement and I am working on some new layouts that I cannot wait to try out. This one will require some creative Styrofoam work. But it should allow me to easily run two trains and still try out our new turntable.

Senecaville Layout

4x8 Large loop, with a inner Kidney. Inspired by my daughter, and with an interest in doing a classic Kidney shaped loop. I started with a simple mainline, added a kidney, and the rest is details. I used a lot of the Bachmann 44505, with 15" radius and 30 deg. angle. This allowed me to get the curves much closer together. We added lots of industry to the north end (right) and our village resides within the kidney loop.

I have uploaded pictures of the layout to flicker, you may view them here at 2012 MR Layout 2.

Christmas Layout 2012

It has been a little while since my last post, I have been really busy with work. In my spare time I have started to work on the layout for under the Christmas tree. My idea was to add some dimension to the layout this year, but making the Christmas train go up and into the tree. I did not have much of a good idea about how to do this, and after some calculations with spirals, it was going to take too much track and too much work to make it happen.

Instead, I decided on an elevated track which will be a secondary loop at the bottom of the tree. The primary loop will extend beyond the tree parameter (estimated) and the secondary loop will ascend. My inspiration for this was The Little Engine That Could. Where the engine had to traverse mountains to get toys to good little girls and boys. The Christmas tree is approximated in the center.

4x6 - Plan 8

This is another simple layout with some interesting switching. Lots of possibilities for a yard and/or industry. I had to modify a little from the original, but it is similar to the layout in "Model Railroading Made "E-Z" with Bachmann's E-Z Track System. Enjoy!

5x9 - Plan 19

This "Two-Lap Oval with Two Passing Sidings" is created from Model Railroading Made "E-Z" with Bachmann's E-Z Track system. I was reading through a book that came free with one of the model railroad sets that I had purchased over the years and came across this layout. It is a little big for my 4x8 layout, but I think it might be interesting if I ever expand my foodprint.

Morgan Valley Railroad

While reading a most on the Model Train Forum. I came across a request for a 4x6 layout. There was a reply that pointed to a Atlas site with a code 83, layout. I decided to let that inspire me and build one using Bachmann code 100, silver nickel.

4x8 - 2 Crossovers

This is a little newer, and more complex. It provides a little more interesting layout. It allows for two loops, I have one running a DCC, and an inner loop running a DC. This allows for some fun activities between industry and towns.
